Darkness Departed

Trapped in a pit of despair
I lie hopeless.
Drowning in darkness.
Covered in night.
Where is the light?
Where is the light?

I lie here restless
Waiting for an answer
Hoping beyond hope
That the light will come.

Will you show me the way?
Will you bring me the light?
Will you give me your hand
and Take me out of the night
Will you finish the work He started
and lead me to darkness departed.

What's upcoming in my life.

I thought it was about time to update everybody on what's going on in my life. First off, I just want to say that God is really challenging me and testing me in the past couple of days. He is also preparing my heart for the future, because in 4 days I will be in Atlanta. More about that in a second. God is testing me on how much I depend on Him. He is longing for me, waiting for me. I'm also beginning to become more aware of His presence in the mundane things of life. I guess this all started when I got filled with the Holy Spirit about a month or so ago. Since then, there is a joy that is unspeakable and unexplainable to anyone unless they already have it. God is working in my life. I'm anxious to see what He does in the future

Christmas was amazing. I got a lot of cool stuff including "Justice League Unlimited Season 1" from my best friend Josh and the new Switchfoot album "Oh! Gravity." If you haven't gotten the album, run out to your favorite music shop and get it. It's amazing. But better than all of the gifts and all of the hoopla was the time I shared with my family. I went over to my Grandma's house that night and got to spend time with her and my grandfather. It was pretty cool. My great-grandmother was also there. She's 96 years old! Talk about history. Talking with her was of course difficult due to her age, but it was just great to talk to her.

Now at this point you may be wondering, what r u doing in Atlanta? The answer is I'm spending 4 amazing days at Passion 07, a worship conference where students and young people between the ages of 18 and 25 gather for one purpose: to glorify Jesus. I'm soooo excited and look forward to seeing what He does as well as get to meet some awesome people and hear some of my favorite music. Pictures should be up on facebook shortly after I get back.

Well, that's all that is going on in my life for now. Join me next time in another episode of

What happened?

Despite the lack of communication with my ODU buds, life is going great. I am kinda bummed out that virtually no one from the BSU seems to care about me though. But that's okay, because God is all I need. God's doing amazing stuff in my life right now. But no one really seems interested in my life except for a select few. You know who you are. What happened? Anyway, just thought I'd vent there for a minute.

What has happened to the love? Part 2

This song is about a topic that I've been dealing with a lot in my own life. A problem area that needs to be solved if the church is to survive. When having conversations with people, this topic comes up time and time again. It is the topic of love for our fellow man. It seems easy enough to do, right? Just go up and talk to someone in need, right? Well, the church seems to have gotten away from this truth. I've heard stories of people walking into a church or ministry and feeling totally unloved. This has happened to both Christians and non-Christians that I know. It is also one of the main reasons some people refuse to go to church. Perhaps this is why Jesus commanded us to love one another. The Bible says, "Beloved, let us love one another. For love is of God and everyone that loves is born of God. He that does not love, knows not God, for God is love." A strong statement coming from God. This song is about that issue. I hope and pray that everyone who sings this song will take it into their hearts to show compassion towards their fellow man, in spite of someone's race, belief, background, personality, etc. Show God's love towards others, period.

What Has Happened to the Love? (Latest version)

A stranger walked into the room.
He hadn't been there for a while.
He was looking for someone to talk to.
Someone to make him smile.

He was waiting, waiting for someone
To meet him there.
Waiting, waiting for people to show they care.

Now it's too late, he's walked out the door.
He won't be back, be back here anymore.

Chorus:

What has happened to the love?
I want to know what became of
the love that we had for one another.
What has happened to the love?
I want to know what became of
the love that we show to our brother?

For when I look at the world today
They seem to be failing miserably
Tell me why must we live this way?

Cornerstone

You are my cornerstone
Eternity depends on You alone
So I bow to worship before your throne
You are the Lord, my cornerstone

What has happened to the love?

The start of a new song I am working on.

Here's the chorus:

What has happened to the love?
I want to know what became of
The love that we had for one another

What has happened to the love?
I want to know what became of
The love that we show to our brother

Because when I look at the world today
They seem to be failing miserably
Tell me why are we living this way?

My One and Only

Here's a new song I wrote today called One and Only.

Verse 1:

Before I met you,
It seemed like no one really cared.
Before I met you,
It felt like no one was there
But now I know you
I can never be lonely
I've found you
My one and only

Chorus:

You are my one and only
I love you because you're holy
Set apart from the rest.
Because of you I have been blessed
You are my one and only
And I know that you are for me.
Give me the strength to hold on.
My one and only.

Verse 2:

Now that I know you, I feel a joy inside
Every time I'm with you, I feel like I'm alive
You know that I love you.
You are my best friend.
We'll be together
Until the very end.

Chorus

(2 Parts)

Guys:
I want you to know
You are never alone
I am with you
always

Girls:
I am with you (3x)
Always

Repeat 2x

Chorus

That's it. What's really cool about this song is it can be about God or someone you really love. I wrote it

Revolution: God's glory at ODU

Well people, it's been a while, a month and 12 days to be exact. Here's what's been going on since that time. First of all King's Fest was a blast. I enjoyed music and fellowship with some of my dearest friends. I also got to meet the Newsboys, which was a perk. For the rest of July I basically just worked and hung out with my friends when I got the chance. One of those friends, Josiah, came back from a long respite and so I hung out with him a lot. That's basically all that's happened between now and then. Oh, I almost forgot. The church that I attend has just signed a contract for 26 acres of land, which is pretty amazing. I'm really looking forward to what God's gonna do in the future. Speaking of God, He's really pushing me to evangelize on campus this semester. I'm not talking little things here. I believe he has put in my heart the desire to revolutionize the campus for Jesus Christ, which is why I plan on forming a group dedicated to this goal. I will be sharing more of this when the semester start. If you're at all interested in this and are willing to dedicate your time and energy to this goal, please contact me. Keep in mind, this is only for ODU students who are ready to get serious about reaching the lost on campus. I plan on trying to get a chance to speak on this topic at the BSU. If not there, than anywhere I can. I've ignored this calling far too long and it's time to get down to business. But I can't do it alone. If you're willing to team up with me in this cause, contact me at your earliest convenience. If you don't attend ODU, but would like to support, prayers would be greatly appreciated. Satan does not want me to do this and I know he already is preparing a force to combat this. So your prayers are not only wanted but encouraged. Speaking of prayer, I have two people in my life that need prayer. One being my good friend Aaron. Aaron has a heart condition and it requires a heart and lung transplant. However, recently, he has just been moved down the list. Please pray that Aaron would be either healed miraculously by God's power, or healed through the transplant. The other friend is Mandy. No not Mindy, but Mandy. She is a very dear friend of mine who is recovering from a trip to the hospital due to complications that arose after her tonsil surgery. She also is feeling a call from God. So pray both for her recovery and for her call from God. She's not sure what God wants to do with her, but she knows she's willing to obey. Well that's all for now. Well hello everyone. Here's a little of what's going on. 1st. King's Fest in 2 days! A 3 day Christian Concert festival that is sure to rock your socks off. 2nd, I'm seeing Superman Returns in IMAX tomorrow! What a better way to celebrate the country than "Truth, Justice and the American way"? What about my life? Well, I'm getting to know friends better and making new ones. The only bad thing is that it seems all of my friends from school are either back at their home far away or working or just plain busy. It's ok though. I'm having fun still. I'm also growing in the Lord by making a habit of reading His Word everyday. I still struggle with sin, just as any Christian does, but I'm learning to fight the good fight and resist the devil. If you haven't seen me in a while I may look kinda different as my goatee is filling out and my hair is pretty shaggy. However, in a week's time, it will probably be back to normal. Well, normal for me anyways. Give me a call if you want to get together sometime. If you know me of course. If you don't, leave a comment here. Anyways, that's all for now. Passion 07, if you're going, let me hear from you.

Thursday, May 11, 2006

Hello, everyone. I am really excited right now for 2 reasons.

1. School is out and I passed with a C+, 2 As and a B
2. I'm going to the Grand Canyon on Saturday.

Also, I'm really excited about this spiritual initiative going on at my church called the Big Dream. It's really cool. For information go to www.thebigdream.net

I also recently purchased the complete series of "The Flash" on DVD last week. I highly recommend it. It is old, made in 1990, but I love it. Mainly, cuz Flash is my favorite superhero, but I think this show made him my favorite superhero. John Wesley Shipp stars as the title character.

If you are reading this and you feel lonely and bored and want to do something and you live anywhere near me, please, please contact me and let me know. I will spend time with you and you will have fun. My contact info is on facebook.

Also, just a shameless plug: Smallville's season finale is on tonight at 8:00. I'll be watching, how about you?

That's all for now. Check you guys later.

Hey, people. Nothing really new going on in my life. Just it's getting down to crunch time at school. With only 6 weeks left, the work is slowly but surely piling up. Luckily, I'm planning ahead and preparing for it. Anyways, that's a prayer request. Also, I've kinda lost my vision for the Pagan Student Alliance. I've gotten caught up with so many things such as school, work, and people, that I've lost my focus on that. Please, please, pray that God would renew that fire in me for them. Also, please pray for the PSA as I try to reach out to them. The more I think about it, the more I want to try to do something, but I can't think of a way that I can. Also, please, please let me know if you're interested in going to Passion '07. You know who you are. I'm trying to get a group together from ODU that wants to go and I also want to try to bring people that don't know this guy named Jesus. He's kinda important to this event. So if you know anybody that fits into that category, invite them. I'll even go so far as to raise money for them if they decide to go.
Two more things. One being the new Passion CD, just to echo my previous post, is coming 04/04/06. 2nd, King's Fest is July 6-8. Be there! It's gonna be awesome.

That's all for now. Join me next time in another episode of The Life and Times of David Ferrell.

Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody! Hope you're all wearing green. This St. Patrick's day I just was really struck by the amazingness of God. First through reading the story of the real St. Patrick and second through going to "Merge", a quarterly event held for servers at my church. My church is making preparations for the future and in so doing is taking the church on a spiritual experience in order to prepare for the possibility of moving into another building in the near future. It's not a sure thing that we will one day move into 0ur own building, but we believe that that is God's best for our church. We are running out of room at the YMCA, which is why we are preparing for the future. Please pray for Waters Edge (no apostrophe, I know, it annoys me too!) as we go through this experience. If you are not familiar with the story of St. Patrick, you can find it on p. 80 of Jesus Freaks II: The Revolutionaries or just google it. I'm really excited about what God is doing in my life and the way He makes everything glorious, which by the way is the title of the new Passion CD coming out April 4th. Get it! That's Everything Glorious. It's gonna be so awesome!

You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
You make everything glorious
and I am Yours.

I love you all and more importantly so does God. If you don't believe me, take a step of faith and fall into His open arms.

Oh one more thing, if you wanna comment on my blogs, you can do 1 of 3 things

Suffering

Hey everyone. Amazing things are going on in my life right now. One of which is this song that I believe is inspired by God Himself. It's called simply "Suffering." Take a look

No greater act of glory
Is shown than in the story
Of Jesus on the cross of suffering.

So when He calls me to die
I will lift my hands and cry
Out to Him and gladly sing

Chorus:
When I'm in suffering
I remember your cross that me free
When I'm in suffering
Let the glory of Your grace be seen.
I give You glory in my suffering.
I was lost but by Your blood I'm found
I give You glory in my suffering
So the glory of Your grace abounds.

(Repeat Verse and Chorus)

Bridge:

I am willing to live
I am willing to give
I am willing to live
For You

I am willing to die
to be a sacrifice
I am willing to die
For You

Chorus

Since You paid the highest price
And died to save my life
I'll be a living sacrifice
For You
(Repeat)

Chorus - End

Let me know what you think.

Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Okay, it has been way too long since I've published a post here. So, here's what's going on in my life. Last Friday I went to a special event that my church, Waters Edge, had. It was great. We basically had our own version of the Olympics. Each table represented a different country and competed in various events against the other tables. The thing about me though was that my table couldn't figure out what country we were. We thought we were Switzerland because we had a white cross on a red background. Turns out that the flag on our nametags was England, the flag on our table was Denmark, and Switzerland is the inverse of the Red Cross. So we were basically all screwed up. On a brighter note, I swept the board on one event: saying the alphabet backwards. I got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and then beat my own record by doing it in 3.3 seconds.
On Saturday, the BSU had its annual Valentine's Day Dinner and Auction. I bought 2 tickets to a Virginia Symphony concert. I also auctioned off a dinner and a movie. The highest bid was given by not 1, but 2 s. So, I'm gonna be taking out 2 s to dinner, which will be cool.
In the relationship arena, things have been kind of sticky. Julianne, a I've liked for a long time, has a boyfriend. But I'm happy for her and wish her the best. I also had to let a friend of mine know that I wasn't interested in a relationship with her, which wasn't a pleasant experience at all. But we're still friends and talk to each other despite what happened.
On another note, I'm apparently a concert freak because I'm going to 3 within 3 months of each one. The first is WinterJam, which is next week. The second is Third Day and the David Crowder Band in April and the 3rd is the 3-day King's Fest in July. I'm excited. I love Christian music. If you want to know more about the bands visit the following sites:
tobymac.com
thirdday.com
davidcrowderband.com

Oh, and I also got those Virginia Symphony tickets.

In the spiritual realm, I'm really beginning to see how God has blessed me so richly with so many godly people in my life, a great family, a great education, and so much more. I pray that I will never lose this passion that I have for everything of Him. Well, I'll post here later. Tune back later for another episode in "The Life and Times of David Ferrell."

In Christ.

I Corinthians 13

Monday, January 30, 2006

Well everybody, nothing's really going on new this week. I guess I just really need some guidance right now in how to go about following my calling to minister to the PSA. I mean, I know what I'm supposed to do, it just seems hard when I'm not really there a lot outside of class. Just pray that God would allow me to meet both people that I'm supposed to be reaching to and people that can help me accomplish this goal that He has set before me.
School's going pretty well right now. I got an A on my first database test, so that's good. In my other classes I think I'm doing okay as well.
In the relationship arena, I'm kinda fuzzy. I mean I've been developing a friendship with this one , but she doesn't seem to be available to talk to face to face ever and I wish it weren't that way, but I know it's probably just God testing my patience and yet I still have my doubts as to whether I'm supposed to be pursuing this at all. On the other hand, I have been developing a love and adoration for the God who created me and blesses me with every good thing from above. I can't begin to describe how thankful and awestruck I am by Him. All I know is that I want to follow Him all the days of my life and do whatever He leads me to do. I'll try to keep you guys, meaning those who actually read this, posted frequently. I know it's been a while and for that I apologize. Tune back later for the next episode in "The Life and Times of David Ferrell."

Back at ODU

Well, I started school last week. Nothing in depth yet. The good news is I might actually enjoy this semester, being I 'm taking classes I like, well, for the most part. Got to spend some time with the people I love this past weekend in Harrisonburg when I went snow tubing with the BSU. That was really fun. I'm gonna be in a wedding this weekend as a groomsman. That should be fun seeing two of my friends tie the knot and being a part of an important moment in their lives. Keeping praying for me, I'm gonna need it.
Also, there's a $10 concert next month, Feb 23rd, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, VA. Bands featured are: Newsboys, TobyMac (woohoo!), ZoeGirl, Hawk Nelson, and Krystal Meyers. Doors open at 6. Starts at 7PM. Hope to see you there.

God Bless.

Passion 06

I realize that I haven't put anything on here about my experience at Passion. Let me do so now. First, I would like to say that I can't fully explain want went on there unless you were there. But I can say this: I have drunk from the fountain of living water and anything less is not satisfying. I have left renewed in God, filled with His Spirit, basking in His Glory. I could say a whole lot more, but none of it is adequate in expressing what God did. All I want to do now is to make His name and glory known throughout my campus at ODU starting Monday when I go back.
Please pray for my calling to witness to the Pagan Student Alliance. Pray that God will show His love through me to them and be Jesus to them. Also if you would like to talk to me on AIM about this, my sn is in my profile. Thank You.

Pagans to Passion

If you're here to comment about my vision for the pagan community on the campus of ODU to go to Passion next year, this is where to start. Thanks for your support.
