It was 26 years and 1 day ago that I entered this world. On Sunday I celebrated that fact. My brother came up from Portsmouth and went to Waters Edge with me. It was a great talk about how to finish strong by one of my favorite people to hear preach, Rob Shepherd. After church I went to Carabba's, a local Italian food chain, for lunch. I had never been and love Italian food so I went there with my family. I had the Mezzaluna, spinach and cheese stuffed ravioli, essentially. Afterwards, we had cake; not just any cake, a Coldstone Cookie Dough Delirium Ice Cream Cake. yellow cake layered with sweet cream cookie dough ice cream with frosting. The girl behind the counter was kind enough to right "Happy 26th Birthday David" on it. It's still not completely eaten. After eating a delicious slice of cake, I opened what I received. The following is a list of those items in no particular order:
1. The Jeeves Omnibus (2 novels and 10 short stories starring P.G. Wodehouse's beloved characters Bertram Wooster and Reginald Jeeves. I can credit Josh Pothen for introducing me to yet another thing I love.)
2. Batman: The Animated Series Volume 1
3. Poirot DVD set 3 containing several episodes of the TV series adapted from Agatha Christie's short stories
4. Focus on the Family's audio dramatization of The Screwtape Letters starring Andy Serkis (yes, that is Gollum from The Lord of the Rings films)
5. Cash (or as my Granddaddy says, "One size fits all", a.k.a. OSFA)
6. A Chick-Fil-A gift card
7. A Barnes and Noble gift card
8. And last, but not least the Josh Pothen gift: Kino's Journey: The Complete Collection. This was one of the most interesting gifts Josh has ever given me for several reasons. One: it was the most unexpected gift by far that I've ever received from him, but in a good way. Two: it is the only anime I own apart from the Animatrix, which, to me, barely counts. Three: one of the last times that Josh and I hung out before he left for medical school we watched an episode of Kino's Journey and I remember it being one of the most thought provoking animated pieces I'd ever watched. Thanks again, Josh, I look forward to experiencing it.
